Is your website ready for Google's AI Overviews?

There is no special “AI schema” or file that guarantees a place in AI Overviews. The foundation is SEO, Googlebot access and quality content. The check therefore measures technical readiness and shows separately what we actually observed in answers from AI with Google Search.

No sign-up and no phone number. You see the result right on the page.

What the check measures

  • Googlebot may crawl the page (robots.txt), status code, noindex, canonical
  • Snippets allowed (nosnippet, max-snippet, data-nosnippet)
  • Content in the HTML without JavaScript, question-and-answer headings
  • Contact and About, structured data (helps understanding, does not guarantee inclusion)
  • Separately: observed citations in Gemini with Google Search for 4 generic questions (when the API is available)

What the check cannot tell you

  • Whether your page actually appears in AI Overviews — Google has no public API for that
  • Positions and impressions in Search Console
  • How AI Overviews look for a particular user and location

Free scope

The given page + robots.txt. Observed citations: 4 generic questions, only when the Gemini API is available; otherwise we say so explicitly.

Technical readiness (sample)

  1. High priority Content is in the HTML without JavaScript

About 40 words in the HTML without JavaScript.

  2. Low The page answers customer questions

    Question-style headings: 0.

  3. Low Contact and company information

    About: no, Contact: yes.

Observed citations are shown separately below the technical part.

Method — how we measure

  • The technical part is a weighted average of checks (as in the SEO check). Observed citations do not change the technical score.
  • Google-Extended in robots.txt does not affect AI Overviews — it only governs use for Gemini models. Shown for information only.
  • Observed citations: the Gemini API with the Google Search tool (grounding), without user location. It is a measurement of a specific API and setting and may not match what every user sees.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need special code or a file for AI Overviews?

No. No AI schema or file guarantees inclusion. Google uses pages from its normal index; access, content quality and whether the page answers the question decide.

Does llms.txt help?

Not for Google AI Overviews — Google does not use it. For other AI systems it is only a proposed standard, so we give it little weight.

Why are observed citations shown separately?

Technical readiness is a precondition, not a guarantee. What AI actually cites is a different measurement and can change daily.

What if the Gemini API is unavailable?

We say so and do not count observed citations. The technical part is fully measured.
